Handbell Season Finale

The 2008-09 Handbell Choir season ended wtih a smash when we played "Get on Board, Little Children" for the 9:00 Traditional Worship Service on May 17th. That was the Sunday the Children's Choir presented The Good News Cruise, which was also great. Numerous generous comments were made concerning both performances, including several people who said the handbell piece was the best they had ever heard the choir sound! Congratulations, ringers! Have a great summer, all. I am reading up on everything concerning handbells that I can find, and I can only say, "You ain't played nothin', yet!" Especially with the addition of the Youth Handbell Choir, next year promises to be exciting for the Handbell Program at Trinity!

Handbell Boot Camp

Have you ever thought it would be fun to join the Handbell Choir, but have been intimidated because you thought it would be too complicated to get started, all that reading music stuff? Ask any current member of the choir – they will probably tell you that getting started is easy, primarily because we ease you into playing. As a music director, I firmly believe that my role as educator is just as important as waving my arms on Sunday morning, and so you will not be “thrown to the wolves”. Along these lines, I would like to hold a Handbell Boot Camp next August for current choir members and those of you who would like to “try” it. I was recently reminded to “think big” after hearing that Kristi Shamburger is currently the Handbell Choir Director at her church – she directs four choirs!

First Post

Tonight marks the creation of this Blog, which is intended to be a place for handbell enthusiasts, particularly those at Trinity UMC, Huntington, IN to connect and contribute. To get the bell ringin', as they SHOULD say,I have embedded a number of interesting YouTube videos of Handbell instruction and performances. Have fun, contribute, and come back often!
